Spring Begins

Spring Begins

Spring begins on the March equinox, which is when the amount of sunshine is approximately 12 hours long.  The amount of sunshine will incrementally increase until the first day of Summer.

The March equinox marks the moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator.  This is the imaginary line in the sky above the Earth’s equator,  from south to north. This happens on March 19, 20 or 21 every year.  More information on the March Equinox can be found at

The following are the days spring begins in the upcoming years:

2016:  March 20 (March 19th in certain parts of the Northern Hemisphere)

2017:  March 20

2018: March 20

2019: March 20

2020: March 20
