Paper Bag Day - July 12

Paper Bag Day – July 12

Each July 12th, the significance of an invention that we take for granted is celebrated.   Paper bags are used by millions of people every day. Readily recyclable, paper bags have been around for many years.  American inventor, Francis Wolle, is credited for his patent of the first paper bag machine in 1852.   Margaret E. Knight was known to be “the mother of the grocery bag” after her invention, in 1870, of a machine that would cut, fold and past square paper bag bottoms. Over the years, other inventors have received recognition and/or patents  for their  inventions of devices that improve the paper bag and/or it’s production.

Post on social media using #NationalPaperBagDay to encourage others to join in paying it forward.

Our research was unable to find the creator of Paper Bag Day, an “unofficial” national holiday.
