NATIONAL MILITARY SPOUSE APPRECIATION DAY HISTORY

May 23, 1984 was declared the first Military Spouse Day with Proclamation 5184, dated April 17, 1984 as President Ronald Reagan recognized the profound importance of spouse commitment to the readiness and well-being of military members.  Caspar Weinberger, US Secretary of Defense, standardized the date by declaring the Friday preceding Mother’s Day as Military Spouse Day.   Each year, the United States President normally commemorates this day with a ceremonial speech and proclamation.

Here’s to the United States Military men and women who leave behind spouses to handle their homes and families until they return. God bless them and keep them in the warmth and joy of love greater than any worries they may know. And thank you to those who serve these United States of America and keep the lands and halls hallowed, no jihad it’s or sharia laws ever to rob the democracy so hard won through generations of military families. Be blessed. Pastor Marni

Actually, this should be FRIDAY, MAY 9th… not 10th.

Military Spouses Day was created by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 Secretary of Defense Casper Weinberger established the “Friday” before Mother’s Day as Military Spouses Day.
