To increase mead awareness and foster camaraderie among meadmakers, Mead Day is observed each year on the first Saturday in August. Mead Day was created by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) in 2002.
Sometimes called “honey-wine”, mead is an alcoholic beverage that is made by fermenting honey with water. Often times fruits, spices, grains or hops are added in the making of this, loved by many, drink.
Mead has been known to be called the “ancestor of all fermented drinks.”
