NATIONAL GIVE SOMETHING AWAY DAY

National Give Something Away Day is celebrated annually on July 15. This is a day to give something to someone. It can be something that is a basic necessity like shoes or clothing or something more frivolous like flowers or a balloon bouquet. Spend time with someone in a hospital or just call someone to let them know you are thinking about them. National Give Something Away Day is a day to pay it forward and do something nice for someone, whether it is someone you know or a stranger.

CELEBRATE

Celebrate by buying lunch for someone in need. Buy a cup of coffee for the person behind you in line at the coffee shop. Go through your closet and donate clothing you no longer wear to a good cause. Post on social media using #GiveSomethingAwayDay to encourage others to join in paying it forward.

HISTORY

National Give Something Away Day was submitted by Linda Eaton Hall-Fulcher. The Registrar at National Day Calendar declared National Give Something Away Day to be observed annually on July 15.

NATIONAL TAPIOCA PUDDING DAY

Annually celebrated across the nation and around the world, July 15th is National Tapioca Pudding Day!

Extracted from Manioc, tapioca is a starch.  Now cultivated worldwide, Manioc is a woody shrub of the Euphorbiaceae (spurge) family and is native to South America.  It is cultivated as an annual crop in tropical and subtropical regions for its edible starchy tuberous root.  When dried to a powdery or pearly extract, it is called tapioca.

There are several forms that, commercially, tapioca is processed into.  These forms are: hot soluble powder, meal, pre-cooked fine/coarse flakes, rectangle sticks and “pearls”.  Pearls are the most widely used and most widely available shape having sizes ranging from around 1 mm to 8 mm in diameter.

Although used in other ways, in the United States, tapioca is usually associated with tapioca pudding.

I LOVE HORSES DAY

Horse and equestrian lovers across the nation celebrate each year on July 15th as National I Love Horses Day is one of their favorite “unofficial” holidays.  This day pays tribute to, and honors, the horse. According to an Animal Plant poll, the horse is the world’s fourth favorite animal. (Wikipedia)

Playing an important role in history, horses have been an essential part of our countries development as, from the beginning, they helped in exploring new territory, provided transportation, helped in the fields, helped in war as well as companionship.

This day is a great opportunity to learn more about horses.  While you are doing research at your local library or on the ‘net’, learn more about the Colt, Filly, Foal, Gelding, Mare, Stallion and Yearling.

Did you know:  Horses have the largest eyes of all land mammals?  Also, horses are lateral-eyed, giving them a range of vision of more than 350•.

To celebrate this animal holiday, you can spend time with your horse/horses (if you have any) or someone’s that you know, go riding, groom your horse, volunteer at a horse rescue, foster a horse or donate to a charity that helps horses.
