 NATIONAL CATFISH DAY

National Catfish Day is observed each year on June 25.   In the United States, this national observance celebrates “the value of farm raised catfish”.

A diverse group of ray-finned fish, catfish are named for their prominent barbels, which resemble cat whiskers.

  • Catfish are nocturnal.
  • Catfish are a good source of Vitamin D.
  • In the United States, the most commonly eaten species are the channel catfish and the blue catfish.

A favorite dish to many Americans, this fine finned fish can be prepared many different ways.  A popular preparation method in the United States is to coat it with cornmeal and fry it.

“In 1986, catfish comprised the third highest volume of finned fish consumed in the United States.”

A big day for crafters, June 25 celebrates National Leon Day.   Leon is Noel spelled backwards and June 25 marks the six month point until Christmas.

Crafters across America begin thinking about their ideas and plans for homemade crafts for Christmas and gifts for the upcoming season, which is the favorite crafting holiday.

NATIONAL HANDSHAKE DAY

The last Thursday of each June, people across the nation celebrate National Handshake Day.

The tradition of handshaking goes way back:  “Archaeological ruins and ancient texts show that handshaking was practiced in ancient Greece as far back as the 5th century BC”.

NATIONAL BOMB POP DAY

 National Bomb Pop Day is celebrated each year on the last Thursday of June.   Invented in 1955 in Kansas Missouri, Bomb Pops are known to people as the red, white and blue Popsicle!  Having one of these frozen treats is a great way to kick off the upcoming 4th of July celebrations in your community!
